At 2 Cats, resident safety is always our top priority. While our team works diligently to maintain a secure and well-managed building, it is essential that all residents understand and follow fire safety guidelines. Being prepared can make a life-saving difference in an emergency.
The following information is based on the building’s fire safety plan and outlines what to do in the event of a fire.
Download a copy of the Condo’s Fire Procedures here.
If You Discover a Fire
Leave the fire area immediately
Close all doors behind you to help contain the fire.
Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station to alert other residents.
Exit the building using the stairs — never use elevators during a fire.
Once outside and in a safe location, call 911. Provide the building address and details of the fire.
Do not return to the building until a Fire Department Official states it is safe to do so.
If You Hear the Fire Alarm
Before opening your suite door, feel the door handle. If it is not hot, brace yourself and open it slightly. If you feel air pressure or a hot draft, close it quickly.
If there is no smoke in the corridor, close your door behind you and proceed to the nearest exit.
If you encounter smoke in the corridor or stairwell, consider using an alternate exit or return to your suite.
Never use the elevators during a fire.
Listen for instructions from fire department personnel or announcements over the building's communication system.
What to Do If You Must Stay in Your Suite
Remaining inside your suite may be the safest option under certain conditions, such as if heavy smoke prevents safe evacuation. If this is the case:
Close your door and leave it unlocked for possible firefighter entry.
Call 911 to report your location and situation.
Seal cracks around doors and vents using wet towels or duct tape to prevent smoke from entering.
Move to a room with a window or balcony, and stay low to the ground where air is cleaner.
Signal for help by waving a sheet or cloth from the window if possible.
Remain calm and wait for assistance.
Using a Fire Extinguisher
While we encourage residents to evacuate first, if you are trained and feel safe to do so, you may attempt to put out a small fire using a fire extinguisher. Remember the PASS method:
Pull the pin.
Aim at the base of the fire.
Squeeze the handle.
Sweep side to side.
If the fire cannot be put out immediately, evacuate and close the door behind you.
In-Suite Fire Safety Systems
Each suite is equipped with sprinklers, smoke alarms and audible devices.
Please ensure:
Smoke alarms are not disabled or covered. Learn more about yours here!
Sprinkler heads are not obstructed, painted, or used to hang items.
Exits and pathways are always kept clear.
Fire Prevention Tips
To reduce fire risks:
Keep hallways and stairwells free of clutter and combustible materials.
Clean dryer lint traps regularly.
Never leave cooking unattended, and avoid wearing loose clothing while cooking.
Do not overload electrical outlets or use damaged cords.
Always extinguish cigarettes properly and never smoke in bed.** Remember this is a non-smoking building, no smoking is allowed on the condo property at any time.
Be Prepared
All residents should be familiar with the building’s fire emergency procedures. It is important to know the location of exits, alarm pull stations, and evacuation routes. Residents who require assistance in an emergency are encouraged to notify building management in advance so that support can be arranged.
